My journey into tablet computing - part 1

Hi, and welcome to my blog. To give you a little background on how I've got here and why I'm making this journey, let me give you a brief background. I've worked in the hi tech biz for most of my life. I started in the days of DOS, and I've progressed through Windows as far as Windows 7. My background is marketing, sales and general management. I'm not a geek, but I do have pretty good understanding of computers what they do and how to use them. What I know is mostly self taught and I have the scars to prove it. Abort, ignore, retry, fail...I've been there.

I've toyed with Apple over the years, but I never went to the other side of the fence for some reason. There were times when I came close but I just never felt confident enough to throw off the security blanket that PCs and loads of brilliant software provided for me.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I've had for three years now. I like it - it's fast, powerful, reliable and I know its little foibles. It also weighs a ton, the battery lasts about 15 minutes, and it produces enough heat out of the side to toast bread. So for some time now I've had it in my head to buy a smaller, lighter laptop to carry about when I'm travelling. Access email, edit documents, find the nearest shirt shop - that kind of thing. And I was right on the point of buying a cute little Acer when my daughter gave me a tablet PC.
